Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Abzi narrates that I have offered prayer behind the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and he did not say Takbeer in every single action.

Hazrat Hasan bin Imran narrates that Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz did not say Takbeer in every single action.

Hazrat Humaid says that I have offered prayer behind Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz; he did not say takbeer in every action.

Ibrahim says that Ziyad was the first to abandon saying the takbirs in prayer.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) narrates that I have offered prayer behind Hazrat Qasim and Hazrat Salim; both of them did not say Takbeer in every action.

It is narrated similarly through another chain.

Hazrat Amr bin Murrah says that I have offered prayer behind Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair; he did not say Takbeer in every action.

Hazrat Yazid al-Faqir narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) used to reduce the number of takbirs in prayer. Hazrat Mas'ar states that when he would go from bowing (ruku) to prostration (sajdah), he would not say the takbir. And when he would proceed to perform the second prostration, even then he would not say the takbir.
