Hazrat Abdul Aziz bin Rafee' says that Hazrat Abu Mahzoorah's adhan used to be recited twice each (for every phrase), and the iqamah used to be recited once each (for every phrase).

Hazrat Ibn Musanna says that Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) used to instruct the muezzin to say the adhan twice and the iqamah once, so that those passing by could know the difference between the adhan and the iqamah.
