Hadith 40403
٤٠٤٠٣ - حدثنا حسين بن علي عن زائدة عن هشام عن محمد بن سيرين عن عقبة بن عمرو قال: (كنت) (١) رجلا عزيز النفس حمي الأنف، لا يستقل أحد مني شيئًا سلطانٌ ولا غيره، قال: فاصبحت أمرائي (يخيرونني) (٢) بين أن أصبر لهم ⦗٣٨٤⦘ على قبح وجهي (ورغم) (٣) أنفي [وبين أن آخذ سيفي فأضرب به فأدخل النار فاخترت أن أصبر على قبح وجهي (ورغم) (٤) أنفي] (٥)، ولا آخذ سيفي فأضرب فأدخل النار (٦).
It is narrated from Hazrat Uqbah bin Amr that he said: I was a self-respecting and honorable man; no one could stand before me, neither a king nor anyone else. He said: My leaders gave me the choice in this matter, that I could either be patient with them despite my dislike and humiliation, or I could take my sword and, by unjustly killing, enter Hell. I chose to be patient with my dislike and humiliation and not to take up the sword, so that I would not enter Hell by unjustly killing someone.
