39671 - Anas said: They even pulled his cloak off his back, revealing (something) like a piece of the moon, so he said: "Return my cloak to me, may you have no father! Are you being stingy with me? By Allah, if I had as much wealth as there is between these two mountains in camels and sheep, I would have given it to you." So he gave the newly reconciled that day: one hundred, one hundred camels, and he gave to the people. The Ansar then said something about this, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called them and said: "You said such and such. Did I not find you astray, and Allah guided you through me?" They said: Yes. (He said: "Did I not find you poor, and Allah enriched you?") (2) They said: Yes. He said: "(Did I not) (3) find you enemies, and Allah united your hearts through me?" (They said: Yes) (4). He said: "If you wished, you could have said: You came to us forsaken, (and we supported you)" (5). They said: Allah and His Messenger are more gracious. He said: "If you wished, you could have said: You came to us expelled, (and we sheltered you)" (6). They said: Allah and His Messenger are more gracious. (He said) (7): "And if you wished, you could have said: You came to us needy, and we shared with you." They said: Allah and His Messenger are more gracious. (He said) (8): "Are you not pleased that people return with sheep and camels, and you return with the Messenger of Allah to your homes?" They said: Yes. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The people are an outer garment, and the Ansar are an inner garment." And he put in charge of the distribution ‘Abbad ibn (Waqsh) (9), the brother of Banu ‘Abd al-Ashhal. Then a man from Aslam came, naked, not wearing a garment, and said: Clothe me with one of these cloaks. (He said: They are only the shares of the Muslims, and it is not lawful for me to give you anything from them.) His people said: ⦗37⦘ Clothe him with one of the cloaks (10), and if anyone speaks about it, it will be from our share (and our allotment) (11). So he gave him a cloak. This reached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he said: "(Of all people,) (12) he is the one I feared this (for) (13), not you." He said: O Messenger of Allah, I did not (give it) (14) to him until his people said: If anyone speaks about it, it will be from our share (and our allotment) (15). He said: "May Allah reward you well, may Allah reward you well." (16)
