Hazrat Abu Talha Asadi, may Allah have mercy on him, says that I was sitting with Hazrat Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, when two villagers came with their dispute. One said that while searching for my camel, I reached a certain tribe, and I liked one of their girls very much, so I married her. My parents swore that they would never accept this woman as their daughter-in-law. The boy swore that if he divorced her, it would be obligatory upon him to free one thousand slaves, give one thousand gifts, and give one thousand camels in charity. Hazrat Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, said: I neither order you to divorce her nor to disobey your parents. He asked: Then what should I do? He replied: Continue to treat your parents with kindness.
