It is narrated from Sayyidah Khawlah bint Fahd (may Allah be pleased with her), who was the wife of Sayyiduna Hamzah bin Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with him), that she said: I said: O Messenger of Allah, you know the state we were in (before); then we entered into a marriage relationship with your family, and through this kinship Allah Almighty blessed us with great good and blessing. (The matter I wish to ask about is that) my mother has passed away; will my giving charity on her behalf benefit her at all? At this the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If you were to give in charity on her behalf even a goat's trotter (something so trivial), it would benefit her."
I (Ibn Hajar) say: The chain of this narration is broken (munqati') between Hafs and Sayyidah Khawlah.
