It is narrated from Sayyiduna Zayd bin Harithah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to some of his Companions: "Come along!" So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and his Companions set out together, until they entered a long lane between two walls (gardens). When they reached a house, a woman was sitting there, and a small waterskin full of water had been placed there. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I see the waterskin, but I do not see the one who carries it (brought it)." The woman pointed to a sheet (or blanket) in a corner of the house. The Companions went and removed the sheet, and beneath it was a person (Ibn Sayyad). He raised his head, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "May the faces be disfigured (curse be upon you)!" He said: "O Muhammad! Why are you speaking ill of me?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I have hidden something in my heart for you (as a test); tell me what it is." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had hidden Surah al-Dukhan (the idea or a verse of it) for him. He said (an incomplete word): "Dukh" (i.e. smoke). At this he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Remain disgraced and humiliated! Whatever Allah wills happens." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) went back from there.
Al-Bazzar (may Allah have mercy on him) and al-Tabarani (may Allah have mercy on him) recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains a narrator named Ziyad bin al-Hasan bin Furat, whom Abu Hatim (may Allah have mercy on him) declared da'if (weak), while Ibn Hibban (may Allah have mercy on him) declared him trustworthy.
