Can you inform us about the Nisab (minimum threshold) for silver according to authentic Hadiths?
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu wa-s-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ammā baʿd...
✿ The Nisab of silver, as prescribed in Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, and all other authentic books, is two hundred dirhams.
✿ This amount is equivalent to 140 mithqal, which corresponds to 52.5 tola (tola = traditional South Asian unit of mass).
✿ If a person possesses 52.5 tola of silver, then one-fortieth (1/40) of it becomes obligatory as Zakat.
✿ This amounts to approximately one tola and almost four masha (a subunit of tola), or you may understand it as approximately 1 tola and 4 masha of silver due as Zakat.
✿ Any amount of silver exceeding this Nisab will also be subject to Zakat in the same proportion.
✿ If someone possesses 52.5 rupees (back when rupees were silver-based), then 1 rupee and 5 annas becomes obligatory as Zakat, because rupees also belong to the same category of silver.
✿ However, if the amount is less than this Nisab (i.e., less than 52.5 rupees), then Zakat is not obligatory.
✿ And if it is more than this amount, then Zakat must be calculated accordingly, based on the same proportion mentioned above.
