This excerpt is taken from the Arabic book Al-Awamer wal-Nawahi by Sheikh Hussain bin Mubarak Al-Mawsili, whose Urdu translation has been done by Muhammad Sarwar Gohar Sahib under the title Ahkamat o Mamnoaat.
① Sayyiduna Muqil bin Yasar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:
العبادة فى الهرج كهجرة إلي
Worship during disagreement and trials is equivalent to migrating to me.

① Sayyiduna Utbah Sha'bani narrates, I narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Tha'laba Khushni رضي الله عنه, I said: O Abu Tha'laba! What do you say about this verse ﴿عَلَيْكُمْ أَنفُسَكُمْ﴾ "You are responsible for yourselves"

? He said: By Allah! You have asked a knowledgeable person about it. I also asked the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم about it, and he said:بل ائتمروا بالمعروف وتناهوا عن المنكر حتى إذا رأيت شحا مطاعا وهوى متبعا ودنيا مؤثرة وإعجاب كل ذي ر أى برأيه فعليك بخاصة نفسك ودع عنك العوام فإن من ورائكم أياما الصابر فيهن مثل القابض على الجمر للعامل فيهن مثل أجر خمسين رجلا يعملون مثل عملكم
Keep enjoining good and forbidding evil until you see that obedience is given with stinginess and greed, desires are followed, the world is preferred, and every opinion-holder likes his own opinion. Then you are responsible for yourselves and leave the common people, for after you there will come times in which a patient person will be like one holding a burning coal in his hand. In those times, for one who acts, the reward will be like that of fifty of you who act.
Abdullah bin Mubarak narrates that other narrators besides 'Uqbah have narrated these words to me more often. It was asked:
بل منكم
"From among us or from among them?"
The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said:
مثل عملكم
Rather from among you (like fifty men).

① Sayyiduna Abu Saeed Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:
يوشك أن يكون خير مال المسلم غنم يتبع بها شعف الجبال ومواقع القطر يفر بدينه من الفتن
The time is near when the best possession of a Muslim will be sheep, which he will take to the tops of mountains and places of rainfall, fleeing from tribulations and thus preserving his religion.
