✿ Ruling on Women Attending Mosques with Fragrance or Adornment

It is not permissible—rather, it is prohibited (ḥarām)—for any woman to go to the mosque while wearing perfume or in a state of adornment.

➊ It is narrated from Hazrat Zaynab رضي الله عنها that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

"If any one of you (women) intends to attend the mosque, let her not apply fragrance."
[Muslim: 443; Nasai: 8/100; Ahmad: 6/363; Abu Awanah: 2/161; Ibn Khuzaymah: 1680; Ibn Hibban: 2212]

➋ It is narrated from Hazrat A’ishah رضي الله عنها:

"If the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had seen what we (now) see of the condition of women, he would surely have prevented them from going to the mosque just as the Children of Israel prevented their women."
[Bukhari: 829, Kitab al-Adhan: Bab Khuruj an-Nisa’ ila al-Masajid bi’l-Layl wa’l-Ghalas; Muslim: 445; Abu Dawood: 569; Ahmad: 6/91]

➌ It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

"Any woman who has applied incense (or perfume) should not attend the ‘Isha prayer with us."
[Muslim: 444; Abu Dawood: 4175; Nasai: 8/154; Ahmad: 2/304]
