❖ The Ḥadīth

In Sunan al-Tirmidhī, from Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī (RA), the Prophet ﷺ said:

“Ḥasan and Ḥusayn (RA) are the leaders of the youth of Paradise.”

Objections and Detailed Answers

Objection 1:

Answer:
No. At the Prophet’s ﷺ death, Ḥusayn (RA) was about 5 years old, and Ḥasan (RA) about 8 years old.

Objection 2:

Answer:
No. ʿAlī (RA) was 63 when martyred in 40 AH — not in youth. The phrase “youth of Paradise” does not imply leadership over elders like Abū Bakr, ʿUmar, ʿUthmān, or Jaʿfar (RA).
This assumption is baseless and a fabrication promoted by deniers of ḥadīth.

Objection 3:

Answer:
Absolutely not. No Prophet is subordinate to any member of the Ummah. Such a claim is false and rejected.

Objection 4:

Answer:
Leadership in Paradise is not like worldly leadership. It is an honorary rank.
Example: In Sunan Ibn Mājah (ḥadīth 100, ḥasan; authenticated by Ibn Ḥibbān), Abū Bakr and ʿUmar (RA) are described as the leaders of the elders of Paradise, except the Prophets.
Thus, Ḥasan and Ḥusayn (RA) having the honorary title for the youth of Paradise contains no contradiction.

Objection 5:

Answer:
Islam is based on Qurʾān and Sunnah, not on personal reasoning. Denying a sound ḥadīth because of personal preference is the approach of ḥadīth rejecters and is invalid.

Objection 6:

Answer:
Yes, the Tirmidhī isnād is weak, but the Ibn Mājah narration is authentic.
Mentioning one person’s virtue does not imply another’s deficiency — just as praising ʿĀʾishah (RA) does not insult Khadījah (RA).

ʿAlī (RA) will be with Abū Bakr and ʿUmar (RA) under their leadership in Paradise.

Final Conclusion:

The ḥadīth “Ḥasan and Ḥusayn (RA) are the leaders of the youth of Paradise” is authentic in meaning, and the virtue it contains is certain.
Objections arise mainly from deniers of ḥadīth or those with insufficient knowledge and hold no scholarly or Sharʿī weight.
