The hadith states that when Jabir bin Abdullah married a divorced woman, the Prophet ﷺ said, "Why did you not marry a virgin girl? You would play with her and she would play with you."
Reference: (Sahih Bukhari: 5079)
Although the Prophet ﷺ was a supporter of widows, then why did he mention marrying a virgin?
First Point
❀ There should be no objection to the fact that the Prophet ﷺ encouraged marrying a virgin, while reason, science, religions, or any worldly law does not consider it wrong.
Second Point
❀ If the Prophet ﷺ encouraged marrying a virgin in this hadith, then in other hadiths the benefits of marrying a virgin are described as follows: they speak gently, their womb is clean so that they have many children, and they are content with less wealth.
Reference: (Sunan Ibn Majah: 1861)
Thus, in this hadith about marrying a virgin, three benefits are mentioned from moral, economic, and social perspectives, due to which they are preferred in marriage.
Third Point
❀ Actually, the objection is based on a part of the hadith. If the entire hadith is read, then there is no room left for this objection because it is in the same hadith that when Sayyiduna Jabir رضي الله عنه explained the reason for marrying a divorced woman, the Prophet ﷺ was pleased with it and prayed for blessings.
After the Prophet ﷺ was pleased with this and prayed for blessings, is there any room left for any objection??
