This directive is based on the command of Allah Almighty:
**
﴿ وَقَرْنَ فِي بُيُوتِكُنَّ وَلَا تَبَرَّجْنَ تَبَرُّجَ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ الْأُولَىٰ ۖ وَأَقِمْنَ الصَّلَاةَ وَآتِينَ الزَّكَاةَ وَأَطِعْنَ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ ﴾
**
“And stay in your homes, and do not display yourselves as was the display of the former days of ignorance. Establish prayer, give zakāh, and obey Allah and His Messenger.”
Surah al-Aḥzāb (33:33)
❖ In this verse, Allah directly addresses women, commanding them to remain within their homes and not to leave without necessity.
❖ The verse clarifies that a woman’s primary domain is not the fields of politics or public economics, but rather the sanctuary of her home, where she is to manage household affairs.
❖ If there arises a legitimate need to go outside, the following conditions and etiquettes must be observed:
① She must not adorn herself or display her beauty in public as was done during the Days of Ignorance (Jāhiliyyah).
② She should not go unveiled, with her hair, face, arms, or chest exposed in a manner that invites public gaze.
③ She should leave the house without fragrance,
④ Wearing plain clothing,
⑤ And being fully covered and modest.

✦ Parents bear responsibility to ensure their daughters, upon reaching adulthood, do not leave the home without necessity.
