Which Supplication Should Be Made for the One Who Provides Iftar?

❖ Question by Qari Usama bin Abdul Salam (ḥafiẓahullāh):
As-Salāmu ʿAlaykum wa Raḥmatullāhi wa Barakātuh
What is the appropriate supplication from the Qur'an and Sunnah for the one who provides iftar to fasting individuals? Kindly clarify. JazakAllahu Khayran fid-Dunya wal-Akhirah.

❖ Answer:
Wa ʿAlaykum as-Salām wa Raḥmatullāhi wa Barakātuh

It is narrated in the Hadith:

"أَفْطَرَ عِندَكُمُ الصَّائِمُونَ، وَأَكَلَ طَعَامَكُمُ الْأَبْرَارُ، وَصَلَّتْ عَلَيْكُمُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ"

Translation:

ʿAbdullāh ibn az-Zubayr (رضي الله عنهما) reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ broke his fast at the house of Saʿd ibn Muʿādh (رضي الله عنه), and said:

"May the fasting people break their fasts with you, may the righteous eat your food, and may the angels send prayers upon you."

Sunan Abī Dāwūd 3854 (with slight variation), Musnad Aḥmad 12406 (lengthier version with slight variation), Ṣaḥīḥ Ibn Ḥibbān al-Mawārid 1353, Muṣannaf ʿAbd al-Razzāq 7907

A supporting narration is also reported with a ḥasan (sound) chain of narration:
As mentioned in Mushkil al-Āthār by Ṭaḥāwī (1/498–499), from Anas ibn Mālik (رضي الله عنه) who reported that the Prophet ﷺ visited Saʿd ibn ʿUbādah (رضي الله عنه) and ate the food served to him. Upon leaving, the Prophet ﷺ said:

"أكل طعامكم الأبرار، وأفطر عندكم الصائمون، وصلت عليكم الملائكة"
"May the righteous eat your food, may the fasting break their fast with you, and may the angels send prayers upon you."

The chain is ḥasan. Refer to Sunan Abī Dāwūd (my verification: 3854).
