Authored by: Hafiz Muhammad Anwar Zahid حفظه الله

✿ The Narration:

ʿUbaydullah ibn Abū Rāfiʿ narrates from his father:

"When Fāṭimah رضي الله عنها gave birth to Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī رضي الله عنهما, I saw that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited the Adhān (call to prayer) in his ear."

❖ Sources of the Narration:

  • Sunan Abī Dāwūd, Kitāb al-Adab, Chapter: Adhān in the Ear of a Newborn
  • Jāmiʿ al-Tirmidhī, Kitāb al-Aḍāḥī, Chapter: Adhān in the Ear of the Newborn, Hadith 15/14
  • Referenced in Tuhfat al-Aḥwadhī, Hadith no. 5105

❖ Authentication of the Narration:

Status of the Chain: Its chain is weak (ḍaʿīf).

✿ Reason for Weakness:

① The narrator ʿĀṣim ibn ʿUbaydullah is weak.

  • Graded as weak by hadith scholars.
  • Referenced in:
    • Silsilat al-Aḥādīth al-Ḍaʿīfah, Hadith no. 321
    • Various hadith commentaries mention his lack of reliability in transmitting narrations.

Due to this weakness, the narration cannot be considered authentic.

❖ Conclusion:

The narration that the Prophet ﷺ gave the Adhān in the ear of Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī رضي الله عنهما at birth is found in well-known hadith collections but is not supported by a strong chain of transmission.

As such, this specific report is weak and should not be used as definitive evidence in religious rulings or practices unless its weakness is clearly noted.
