Question:
What is the ruling on those who believe in the divinity of Sayyidina Ali (may Allah be pleased with him)?
Answer:
Making someone other than Allah a deity is major shirk, and the one who commits it is a disbeliever, regardless of who they are. Giving Sayyidina Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) the status of divinity or considering him a deity is shirk with Allah, which expels one from Islam.
❀ Allah Almighty says:
Reference: (Al-A'raf: 194)
"Those whom you call upon besides Allah are but servants like yourselves; call upon them, and let them respond to you if you should be among the truthful."
❀ Furthermore, the command of Allah Almighty is:
Reference: (Al-Isra: 56)
"Say, 'Those whom you call upon besides Allah do not possess the power to remove your distress or to bring it upon you.'"
❀ The divine command is:
Reference: (Al-Qasas: 88)
"Do not call upon anyone besides Allah; there is no deity except Him."
