Allah ﷻ has mentioned the word “الثَّقَلَانِ” in Surah Ar-Rahmān – what does it mean?
Answer:
In the explanation of the verse:
"سَنَفْرُغُ لَكُمْ أَيُّهَ الثَّقَلَانِ",
Sayyiduna ʿAbdullah ibn ʿAbbās رضي الله عنهما narrated that:
“الثَّقَلَانِ refers to the jinn and mankind.”
[Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith No. 113/2]
Thus, in this context, “الثَّقَلَانِ” signifies the two weighty creations: the jinn and the humans.
