What Is the Etymology of the Word "Jinn"?

Compiled by: Dr. Rizā Abdullah Pāshā (May Allah Protect Him)

Answer:

The name "Jinn" is derived from the root word "Istajnān," which means to be hidden or concealed. This name is used for them because they are unseen by people. Similarly, the term "Janīn" (fetus) is used for a child in the womb because it is concealed from sight.
