What is the Blood Money (Diyah) for Killing by Mistaken Intent (Shibh al-Amad)?

Text and Explanation

In one narration with this chain, it is reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:

"The Diyah (blood money) for killing by mistaken intent (Shibh al-Amad) is severe (mughallazah) like that of intentional killing, but the perpetrator is not to be executed.
This refers to a situation where Satan sows discord among the people, leading to random firing of arrows in confusion, without prior hostility or the carrying of weapons."

Important Points

No Qisas (legal retribution) in Killing by Mistaken Intent:
In cases of Shibh al-Amad (mistaken intent), the killer is not subject to capital punishment.

The Diyah (Blood Money) is Severe:
The blood money in Shibh al-Amad is considered mughallazah (severe), equivalent to the Diyah for intentional killing.
It is composed of one hundred camels, among which forty must be pregnant she-camels.

Satan's Role in Spreading Violence:
Satan works continuously to promote killing and bloodshed among people, fostering chaos and discord.

Definition of Shibh al-Amad:
Killing with an object that ordinarily does not cause death, but with the intent to harm, resulting in death.
Thus, even though there was an intention to strike, the means were not typically lethal.
