He came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and accepted Islam. Upon returning, he passed by some people who had tied up a madman in iron chains. The family of the afflicted person said:
“We have heard that your companion (Muḥammad ﷺ) has brought goodness. Do you have anything that could serve as a remedy for him?”
He recited Sūrah al-Fātiḥah over the man, and he recovered. They then gave him one hundred sheep.
Later, he went to the Prophet ﷺ and informed him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked:
«هل إلا هذا؟ وقال مسدد فى موضع آخر: هل قلت غير هذا؟ قلت: لا. قال: خذها فلعمري لمن أكل برقية باطل لقد أكلت برقية حق»
"Did you recite anything other than this?" (In another version, Masaddad said: "Did you say anything else?") I said: 'No.'
He ﷺ said: 'Take them (the sheep), for by my life, whoever consumes something through a false incantation has done so wrongly — but you have earned this through a rightful incantation.'"
