Question:
What is the status of the following narration?
Reported from Sayyiduna Anas ibn Mālik رضي الله عنه:
توفي آخر ذلك اليوم، وكان ذلك اليوم لاثنتي عشرة خلون من شهر ربيع الأول.
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed away at the end of that day, and that day was the 12th of Rabīʿ al-Awwal.”
(Al-Sīrah al-Nabawiyyah by Ibn Ḥibbān 1/400)
Answer:
Its chain is severely weak. Yūnus ibn Khabbāb al-Kūfī is “weak and munkar al-ḥadīth.”
Conclusion:The narration regarding the Prophet’s ﷺ death on the 12th of Rabīʿ al-Awwal through this chain is unreliable due to the presence of a severely weak narrator.
