❖ Question:
How does Shayṭān mislead students of sacred Islamic knowledge and divert them from its true benefits?
❖ Answer by: Fadīlat al-Bāḥith ʿAbd al-Khāliq Sayf ḥafiẓahullāh
Shayṭān employs various strategies and deceptions to deprive students of Islamic knowledge from its true purpose and benefits. Below are some of his most dangerous tactics:
❖ ➊ Ostentation and Loss of Sincerity
◈ Shayṭān instills ostentation (riyāʾ) in the student’s heart, thereby eliminating ikhlāṣ (sincerity).
◈ The pursuit of knowledge then becomes driven by desire for recognition, not for the pleasure of Allah ﷻ.
❖ ➋ Fanaticism and Stagnation
◈ He sows the seeds of partisanship and blind loyalty to specific scholars or groups, making the student rigid and resistant to truth that contradicts his preferences.
◈ Such bias blinds the student from accepting what is correct.
❖ ➌ Fruitless Argumentation and Hatred
◈ Shayṭān leads the student into useless debates, quarrels, and hostility, diverting attention from beneficial learning to ego-driven conflicts.
◈ The student becomes more interested in defeating others than in gaining true understanding.
❖ ➍ Arrogance and Self-Admiration
◈ Shayṭān fosters arrogance and vanity, causing the student to view himself as superior and others as inferior.
◈ This pride destroys the spiritual benefit of knowledge and halts personal growth.
❖ ➎ Issuing Fatāwā Without Proper Knowledge
◈ Shayṭān drives the student to hastily issue fatāwā or speak on religious matters without thorough knowledge, causing misguidance for both the student and others.
◈ Such behavior is a gateway to serious deviation and sin.
❖ ➏ Desire for Fame and Position
◈ Shayṭān incites in the student a longing for fame, status, and recognition.
◈ The desire to be praised or to be seen as knowledgeable overtakes the true objective of serving the religion through sacred knowledge.
❖ Summary:
✔ Shayṭān aims to corrupt a student’s sincerity, purpose, and proper use of knowledge.
✔ Tactics include ostentation, bias, arrogance, pointless debates, reckless fatwā issuance, and craving for recognition.
✔ A sincere student must guard his heart and intentions, striving for humility, sincerity, and purposefulness in seeking knowledge to protect himself from these traps.
May Allah ﷻ protect the seekers of sacred knowledge from the deceptions of Shayṭān and grant them sincerity, humility, and steadfastness in their path.
