Written by: Qari Usama bin Abd al-Salam ḥafiẓahullah
Adultery is a concealed sin that may not be easily identified directly. However, certain behaviors and habits can raise suspicions about a person's character and lifestyle. These signs do not serve as conclusive proof of sin but may warrant attention if observed repeatedly.
◈ Displaying unusual openness and boldness in interactions.
◈ Maintaining unlawful relationships without regard for what is permissible or impermissible.
◈ Showing a lack of modesty and normalizing shamelessness.
◈ Considering close or illicit relationships outside of marriage as acceptable or common.
◈ Attempting to appear excessively attractive and alluring.
◈ Adopting immodest or revealing fashion in the name of style.
◈ Communicating or signaling in a particular way to impress others.
◈ Keeping the phone locked at all times and maintaining excessive secrecy.
◈ Engaging in conversations and exchanging secret messages with suspicious or unknown contacts.
◈ Showing interest in indecent or immoral content on social media.
◈ Staying out late at night or making excuses to visit specific places.
◈ Lying to friends or family members to cover up time spent elsewhere.
◈ Spending time with a specific individual while avoiding open discussion about it.
◈ Lying to one’s spouse or close relations.
◈ Maintaining multiple relationships simultaneously.
◈ Displaying an inappropriate or overly familiar attitude with others.
◈ Showing unnecessary interest in the opposite gender.
◈ Trying to influence others through smiling, eye gestures, and body language.
◈ Engaging in unnecessary flirtation or casual behavior during conversation.
◈ Using illicit relationships for money, gifts, or other personal benefits.
◈ Maintaining secret financial dealings with someone, such as exchanging valuable gifts.
These indicators may raise suspicions about someone's character, but accusing someone based solely on them is not permissible. Islam lays down strict conditions for accusing someone of adultery, such as the presence of four witnesses
(سورۃ النور 24:4). Therefore, if suspicion arises, it is essential first to obtain solid evidence and testimony, so that one may avoid the grave sin of making baseless accusations.
