Warning for the one who frightens, threatens, and harms the people of Madinah

Compiled by: Abu Ubaidah Muhammad Saqib

Severe Warning for One Who Intends Evil Against the People of Madinah

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Saad bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: [من أراد أهل المدينة بسوء أذابه الله كما يذوب الملح في الماء]

Whoever intends evil against the people of Madinah, Allah will melt him away just as salt dissolves in water.
Reference: Sahih Muslim: 1387

One Who Conspires Against the People of Madinah Will Be Erased

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: [لا يكيد أهل المدينة أحد إلا انماع ، كما ينماع الملح في الماء]

Whoever deceives the people of Madinah will dissolve just as salt dissolves in water.
Reference: Sahih al-Bukhari: 1877, Sahih Muslim: 1387

Curse on One Who Terrorizes the People of Madinah

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: [من أخاف أهل المدينة،أخافه الله عز وجل، وعليه لعنة الله والملائكة والناس أجمعين، لا يقبل الله منه يوم القيامة صرفا ولا عدلا]

Whoever terrorizes the people of Madinah with oppression, Allah will terrorize him, and upon him is the curse of Allah, the angels, and all people. Allah will accept neither his obligatory nor voluntary deeds.

Madinah is a Sanctuary; Warning Against Oppression, Corruption, and Innovation Therein

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: [المدينة، حرم ما بين عائر إلى كذا من أحدث فيها حدثا ، أو آوى محدثا فعليه لعنة الله، والملائكة، والناس أجمعين، لا يقبل منه صرف، ولا عدل]

From the hill of A'ir in Medina to such and such a place is a sanctuary (Haram). Whoever innovates any innovation within this boundary or shelters an innovator, upon him is the curse of Allah, all the angels, and all humans. Neither is any of his obligatory worship accepted nor his voluntary acts.

Warning:

This hadith is the fundamental basis for the sanctity of Medina. It indicates that corruption, oppression, bloodshed, sheltering criminals, or harming the people of Medina is a graver crime compared to other cities.
Reference: Sahih al-Bukhari: 1870, Sahih Muslim: 1370

Prohibition of carrying weapons in Medina

Narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir

It is not permissible for any of you to carry weapons in Mecca.

[Explanation and Benefits by: Maulana Abdul Aziz Alvi]

Hadith Footnote: Benefits and Issues: According to the majority of the scholars of the Ummah, the meaning of this hadith is that it is not permissible for a Muslim to carry or use weapons against another within Mecca and the boundaries of the Haram. However, if holding a weapon does not pose any risk of harm or injury to anyone, merely holding the weapon in hand is not impermissible.
Reference: Sahih Muslim: 1356

Narrated by Sayyiduna Abu Saeed Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: [إن إبراهيم حرم مكة ، فجعلها حرما ، وإني حرمت المدينة حراما ما بين مأزميها ، أن لا يهراق فيها دم ، ولا يحمل فيها سلاح لقتال ، ولا تخبط فيها شجرة إلا لعلف]

O Allah! Sayyiduna Ibrahim (peace be upon him) declared Makkah as a sanctuary and proclaimed its sanctity. I declare Madinah as a sanctuary, and the area between the two mountains (hills) on its sides is to be respected. No bloodshed should occur there, nor should weapons be raised against anyone in it, and the leaves of any tree should not be shaken off except for the needs of animals.
Reference: Sahih Muslim:1374

Application of Madinah Ahadith to the Incident of Harrah

It is proven from authentic hadiths that there is a severe warning for anyone who intends harm towards the people of Madinah, conspires against them, or terrorizes them with oppression. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said that whoever intends harm towards the people of Madinah, Allah will melt him like salt, and whoever terrorizes them with oppression, Allah, the angels, and all people curse him. Furthermore, declaring Madinah Munawwarah as a sacred sanctuary, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade shedding blood and carrying weapons for fighting within it. Therefore, the expedition against the people of Madinah in the incident of Harrah, their killing, causing them fear and terror, and violating the sanctity of Madinah was a great injustice and a grave crime in the light of all these texts.
