Urinary Incontinence and the Ruling on Wudu in Islamic Law
Taken from: Fatāwā ʿIlmiyyah, Vol. 1, Kitāb al-Ṭahārah, p. 229
I suffer from urinary incontinence, meaning drops of urine continue to pass.
What is the ruling for me regarding salah (prayer)?
Must I perform wudu each time, or is one wudu sufficient?
If a drop lands on the garment (trousers or izār), what is the ruling?
Since the drops also come outside of prayer times, what should be done with clothing in such cases?
Please clarify in detail.

Al-ḥamdulillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu was-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ʿammā baʿd!
If urinary drops occur continuously and the condition has taken the form of a chronic illness, then in light of the hadith regarding the woman experiencing istiḥāḍah (non-menstrual bleeding), such a person must perform a fresh wudu for each prayer.
◈ The part of the clothing where there is a likelihood of urine drops falling must be washed, so that purity is maintained during salah.
◈ If the drops occur occasionally and have not developed into a chronic condition, then a fresh wudu is required each time the wudu is broken.
(Shahādat, August 2000; New Print: 11 February 2008 | al-Ḥadīth, Issue 47)
➊ If urine drops are continuous, a new wudu must be made for every salah.
➋ The area where drops fall must be washed.
➌ If drops come only occasionally, then wudu must be repeated each time it is broken.
