Treatment from alcohol, movement in a plague-stricken city, and prohibition of speaking ill of fever

This excerpt is taken from the Arabic book Al-Awamer wal-Nawahi by Sheikh Hussain bin Mubarak Al-Mawsili, whose Urdu translation has been done by Muhammad Sarwar Gohar Sahib under the title Ahkamat o Mamnooat.

Prohibition of Treating with Alcohol

① Sayyiduna Tariq bin Suwaid Jufi رضي الله عنه asked the Prophet Muhammad صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم about alcohol, and the Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم forbade or disliked it. He said: "I make it for medicine." The Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
إنه ليس بدواء ولكنه داء
"It is not medicine, rather it is a disease."

Prohibition of Leaving or Entering a Plague-Affected City

① Sayyiduna Usama رضي الله عنه narrates that the Prophet Muhammad صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
إذا سمعتم الطاعون بأرض فلا تدخلوها وإذا وقع بأرض وأنتم فيها فلا تخرجوا منها
"When you hear of a plague in a land, do not go there, and when you are in a land where plague has broken out, do not leave it."

Prohibition of Speaking Ill of Fever

① It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir رضي الله عنه that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم went to Umm Saib or Umm Musib and said:
ما لك يا أم السائب أو يا أم المسيب تزفزفين؟
"O Umm Saib or Umm Musib! What is wrong with you, you are trembling?"
She said: I have a fever, may Allah not bless it. The Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
لا تسبي الحمىٰ ، فإنها تذهب خطايا بني آدم ، كما يذهب الكير خبث الحديد
"Do not speak ill of fever, for it removes the sins of the children of Adam just as a furnace removes the impurities of iron."
