❖ Shar‘i Ruling Regarding Āmīn by a Latecomer (Masbūq)

If a Masbūq (a person who missed part of the congregational prayer) has not yet completed Sūrat al-Fātiḥah, and the Imām says Āmīn, what should the Masbūq do?
Should he say Āmīn again after finishing his recitation of al-Fātiḥah?
✔ Answer:
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu was-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, Ammā baʿd!
✿ Ruling on Recitation of Sūrat al-Fātiḥah:
Whether the prayer is audible (jahrī) or silent (sirrī), in all three cases — meaning:
◈ The Imām
◈ The Follower (Muqtadī)
◈ The Individual (Munfarid)
Recitation of Sūrat al-Fātiḥah is obligatory, even when praying behind the Imām.
Thus, in audible prayers, the follower must recite Sūrat al-Fātiḥah silently.
❖ What If the Imām Says Āmīn While the Follower Has Not Completed Al-Fātiḥah?
If the follower has only recited one verse of Sūrat al-Fātiḥah, and the Imām finishes al-Fātiḥah and says Āmīn,
then — based on the Hadith:
"إِذَا أَمَّنَ الْإِمَامُ ، فَأَمِّنُوا"
“When the Imām says Āmīn, you also say Āmīn,”
— the follower should say Āmīn at that same time.
Afterwards, he should complete the remainder of his Sūrat al-Fātiḥah, in accordance with the principle from Qur’an and Hadith:
"وَمَا فَاتَكُمْ فَأَتِمُّوا"
“Complete whatever part you have missed.”
❖ Should He Say Āmīn Again After Completing Sūrat al-Fātiḥah?
No, once he completes his recitation of al-Fātiḥah, he will not say Āmīn again.
The reason is that in audible prayers, the follower is prohibited from reciting anything other than Sūrat al-Fātiḥah, except in the case of correcting the Imām (i.e., giving a reminder if he forgets).
