The Virtues of Fulfilling the Rights of Neighbors in the Light of Authentic Hadiths

This excerpt is taken from Sheikh Abu Hamza Abdul Khaliq Siddiqi's book Sahih Fazail-e-Amaal.

The Virtues of Fulfilling the Rights of Neighbors

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should not harm his neighbor; whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should honor his guest; and whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should speak good or remain silent."
Reference: Sahih Bukhari, Book of Manners, Chapter on Honoring the Guest and Serving Him Personally, No: 6136. Sahih Muslim, Book of Faith, Chapter on Encouragement to Honor the Neighbor, No: 47.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
لا يدخل الجنة من لا يأمن جاره بوائقه .
"The person will not enter Paradise whose neighbor is not safe from his harm."
Reference: Sahih Muslim, Book of Faith, Chapter on the Prohibition of Harm to the Neighbor, No: 46.

This means it is clear that the person who treats his neighbor well and with excellent manners is a believer and will enter Paradise. This is further clarified by the following noble hadith:
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that a man said to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): O Messenger of Allah! Such and such a woman fasts during the day, prays at night, and gives charity, but she harms her neighbors with her tongue. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: This woman is of the people of Hell. Then the companions (may Allah be pleased with them) said: Such and such a woman only performs the obligatory prayers and gives small pieces of cheese and the like as charity, but she does not harm her neighbors. He said: "This woman is of the people of Paradise."

Ibn Hibban declared it "Sahih."
The noble saying of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) is:
خير الأصحاب عند الله، خيرهم لصاحبه، وخير الجيران عند الله خيرهم لجاره .
"Among the people, the best in the sight of Allah is the one who is best to his companion, and among neighbors, the best is the one who is best to his neighbor."
