This excerpt is taken from Sheikh Hussain bin Mubarak Al-Mawsili's Arabic book Al-Awamer wal-Nawahi, whose Urdu translation has been done by Muhammad Sarwar Gohar Sahib under the title Ahkamat o Mamnoaat.
① It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas رضي الله عنه that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
من خرج فى طلب العلم فهو فى سبيل الله حتىٰ يرجع
"Whoever sets out in search of knowledge, he is in the way of Allah until he returns."
Reference: (Tirmidhi, Book of Knowledge, Hadith: 2647)
② Sayyiduna Qais bin Kathir رضي الله عنه states, I was sitting with Sayyiduna Abu Darda رضي الله عنه in the mosque of Damascus when a man came to him and said: O Abu Darda! I have come to you from the city of the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم because of a hadith. I have learned that you narrate that hadith from the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم, and I have come for no other need. He said, I heard the Messenger of Allah
"Whoever travels on a path in search of knowledge, Allah will make easy for him a path to Paradise because of it. The angels spread their wings for the seeker of knowledge, pleased with what he does. The inhabitants of the heavens and the earth, even the fish in the depths of the water, seek forgiveness for the scholar. The superiority of the scholar over the worshiper is like the superiority of the moon over the stars. Indeed, the scholars are the inheritors of the Prophets. The Prophets do not leave behind dinars or dirhams, but rather they leave behind knowledge, so whoever takes it has taken a great share."
Reference: (Abu Dawood, Book of Knowledge, Hadith: 3641; Ibn Majah, Book of Introduction, Hadith: 223) The narration is Hasan.
③ Sayyiduna Sakharah رضي الله عنه narrates from the Noble Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم that he said:
من طلب العلم كان كفارة لما مضى
"Whoever acquires knowledge, it becomes an expiation for his previous sins."
Reference: (Tirmidhi, Book of Knowledge, Hadith: 2648; Darimi, Book of Introduction, Hadith: 561) This is narrated via Abu Dawood al-A’mi, but this narration is fabricated because al-A’mi is accused.
① It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (RA) that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said:
إذا مات الإنسان انقطع عنه عمله إلا من ثلاثة: صدقة جارية، وعلم ينتفع به، وولد صالح يدعو له
"When a person dies, all his deeds come to an end except for three: ongoing charity, beneficial knowledge, and righteous offspring who pray for him."
Reference: (Muslim, Book of Wills, Hadith: 1631. Abu Dawood, Book of Wills, Hadith: 2880. Tirmidhi, Book of Judgments, Hadith: 1376)
② It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin Al-As (RA) that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said:
العلم ثلاثة وما سوىٰ ذٰلك فهو فضل: آية محكمة، أو سنة قائمة، أو فريضة عادلة
"Knowledge is of three kinds: a decisive verse, an established Sunnah (authentically proven), or the knowledge of fair inheritance distribution."
Reference: Abu Dawood, Book of Inheritance, Hadith: 2885. Ibn Majah, Introduction, Hadith: 54. This narration is weak; in its chain, Abdullah bin Ziyad Afriki and Abdur Rahman bin Rafi' Tanukhi are weak narrators.
③ Sayyiduna Muawiyah (RA) reports, I heard the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) say:
من يرد الله به خيرا يفقهه فى الدين، وإنما أنا قاسم ويعطي الله، ولن تزال أمر هذه الأمة مستقيما حتىٰ تقوم الساعة وحتىٰ يأتى أمر الله
"When Allah intends good for someone, He grants him understanding of the religion. I am only the distributor, while the Giver is Allah, and the affairs of this Ummah will remain correct and straight until the Day of Resurrection and until the command of Allah comes."
Reference: (Bukhari, Book of Holding Fast to the Book and Sunnah, Hadith: 71, 7312. Muslim, Book of Zakat, Hadith: 1073)
④ Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (RA) reports that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said:
من يرد الله به خيرا يفقهه فى الدين
"When Allah intends good for a person, He grants him understanding in the religion."
