The Virtue of Not Concealing the Truth in the Light of the Quran and Hadith

This excerpt is taken from Sheikh Abu Hamza Abdul Khaliq Siddiqi's book Sahih Fazail-e-Amaal.

The Virtue of Not Concealing the Truth

Allah Almighty bestowed the People of the Book with great virtues, blessings, favors, and honors, and counted them among His chosen servants. However, these oppressors did not appreciate Allah’s favors and, following their desires, committed alterations and changes in the guidance and commandments revealed by Allah Almighty. To achieve their alleged objectives, they covered the truth with numerous veils and spread falsehood. As a result, they enrolled themselves among Allah’s accursed servants. Allah Almighty has condemned their deeds repeatedly in the Holy Quran and has commanded to state the truth and support the truthful. The virtues and merits of such people are countless in the Quran and Hadith:
“Indeed, those who conceal what We have sent down of clear proofs and guidance after We made it clear for the people in the Book - those are cursed by Allah and cursed by those who curse.”
Reference: (2-Al-Baqarah:159)

Further, it is stated:
“Those who conceal the clear verses and guidance which We have revealed, and take a small price for it, they indeed fill their bellies with the fire of Hell. On the Day of Resurrection, Allah will not speak to them, nor will He purify them, and they will have a painful punishment. They took misguidance by way of guidance and punishment instead of forgiveness. How patient will they be in the fire? This is because Allah has revealed the true Book, and those who differ concerning the Book are in great dissension and strife.”
Reference: (2-Al-Baqarah:174-176)

“By time, indeed mankind is in loss, except for those who have believed and done righteous deeds and advised each other to truth and advised each other to patience.”
Reference: (103-Al-Asr:1-3)

Concealing the truth is one of the signs of the Day of Judgment:
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “In the last times, there will appear deceitful and lying people who will narrate hadiths that neither you nor your forefathers have heard. Beware of such people, lest they misguide you and cause you to fall into trials.”
Reference: Sahih Muslim, Introduction, No: 7

Also, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) encouraged his Ummah to avoid concealing the truth and to refrain from supporting falsehood, saying:
“The best jihad is to speak a word of justice in front of a tyrannical ruler.”
Reference: Silsilat al-Ahadith as-Sahihah, No: 491

The great scholars and hadith narrators (may Allah have mercy on them all) openly acted upon this hadith, showing no concern for consequences and continued to admonish and advise rulers.
Similarly, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said about the one who propagates the greatest truth, which we have in the form of the Quran and Hadith:
“May Allah keep alive the person who hears something from us and then conveys it exactly as he heard it. Sometimes the one to whom the matter is conveyed is more careful in preserving it.”
Reference: Sunan at-Tirmidhi, Book of Knowledge, No: 2657

Al-Albani (may Allah have mercy on him) declared it authentic.
Therefore, the collection of the Quran and authentic hadiths should be presented before the people so that the truth reaches them. Avoid narrating fabricated hadiths so that people follow the pure religion and, transcending sectarianism, pave the way for Islam to reach the world.
