The Virtue of Guarding in the Way of Allah in the Light of Authentic Hadiths

This excerpt is taken from Sheikh Abu Hamza Abdul Khaliq Siddiqi's book Sahih Fazail-e-Amaal.

The Virtue of Standing Guard

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Suhail bin Saad رضي الله عنه that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم said: "Guarding the frontier for one day in the way of Allah is better than the world and whatever is in it, and having a place in Paradise the size of the whip of any one of you is better than the world and whatever is on it, and walking for one evening or one morning in the way of Allah is better than the world and whatever is on it."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Salman رضي الله عنه that he heard the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم say:
رباط يوم وليلة خير من صيام شهر وقيامه، وإن مات ، جرى عليه عمله الذى كان يعمله ، وأجري عليه رزقه ، وأمن الفتان .
"Guarding for one day and night is better than fasting and standing in prayer for a month, and if he dies during the guarding, the reward of his deeds continues, his provision continues, and he is protected from the trials of the grave."

Benefit: The method of Jihad fi Sabilillah should be according to the Prophetic methodology and the understanding and practice of the noble companions رضي الله عنهم because therein lies the pleasure of Allah. The pious predecessors (Salaf) also emphasized this, otherwise there is a risk of the Muslim Ummah falling into trials. Instead of acting on ignorance, desires, and emotions, one should refer to the scholars of the Salaf who are the inheritors of the knowledge of the Prophets عليه السلام because therein lies goodness and benefit.
