The Virtue of Fasting in Muharram in the Light of Authentic Hadiths

The Virtue of Fasting in Muharram​


عن ابن عباس رضي الله عنهما قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: لئن بقيت إلى قابل لأصومن التاسع .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "If I live until next year, I will definitely fast on the 9th of Muharram as well."

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) says, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:
أفضل الصيام بعد رمضان شهر الله المحرم .
"After the month of Ramadan, the best fast is the fast of Allah's month, Muharram."

Al-Albani (may Allah have mercy on him) declared it "Sahih".
عن أبي قتادة رضي الله عنه، أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم سئل عن صيام يوم عاشوراء، فقال: يكفر السنة الماضية .
Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) states that when the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was asked about fasting on the day of Ashura, he (peace be upon him) said: "It expiates the sins of the previous year."
