This excerpt is taken from Sheikh Abu Hamza Abdul Khaliq Siddiqi's book Sahih Fazail Amaal.
Allah Almighty says:
﴿يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ كُلُوا مِمَّا فِي الْأَرْضِ حَلَالًا طَيِّبًا وَلَا تَتَّبِعُوا خُطُوَاتِ الشَّيْطَانِ ۚ إِنَّهُ لَكُمْ عَدُوٌّ مُّبِينٌ﴾
"O people! Eat from what is lawful and pure on earth, and do not follow the footsteps of Satan. Indeed, he is to you a clear enemy."

﴿ يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا كُلُوا مِن طَيِّبَاتِ مَا رَزَقْنَاكُمْ وَاشْكُرُوا لِلَّهِ إِن كُنتُمْ إِيَّاهُ تَعْبُدُونَ﴾
"O you who have believed, eat from the good things which We have provided for you and be grateful to Allah if it is [indeed] Him that you worship."

In verse (168), Allah Almighty addresses the general people and says to eat lawful and pure sustenance. In this verse, the address is specifically to the believers, because it is through their faith that they can truly benefit from Allah's commands and prohibitions. Therefore, Allah Almighty has commanded the believers to eat pure sustenance and to continuously be thankful for it. As He commanded the Prophets and Messengers and said:
﴿يَا أَيُّهَا الرُّسُلُ كُلُوا مِنَ الطَّيِّبَاتِ وَاعْمَلُوا صَالِحًا ۖ إِنِّي بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ عَلِيمٌ﴾
"O My messengers, eat from the good foods and do righteous deeds."

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah says: (Tayyibat) refers to foods that are beneficial for intellect and morals, and in contrast, (Khabā’ith) refers to foods that are harmful to intellect and morals. Wine is the root of all impure foods because it corrupts intellect and morals. End

عن أبى هريرة رضي الله عنه قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : والذي نفسي بيده لأن يأخذ أحدكم حبله ، فيحتطب على ظهره، خير له من أن يأتى رجلا فيسأله، أعطاه أو منعه
Narrated by Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: By the One in Whose hand is my soul, it is better for one of you to carry a bundle of wood on his back and sell it to earn his living than to ask someone for something and he either gives it or refuses.

عن أبى هريرة رضي الله عنه أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: كان زكريا نجارا
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: Sayyiduna Zakariya (peace be upon him) was a carpenter.

وعن المقدام رضى الله عنه عن النبى صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: ما أكل أحد طعاما قط خيرا من أن يأكل من عمل يده، وإن نبي الله داود عليه السلام كان يأكل من عمل يده
Narrated by Sayyiduna Miqdad bin Ma’dikarib (may Allah be pleased with him), the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:
"No one has ever eaten better food than what he has earned with his own hands, and the Prophet Dawud (peace be upon him) used to eat from what he earned with his own hands."

عن أبى هريرة رضى الله عنه قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: من تصدق بعدل تمرة من كسب طيب، ولا يقبل الله إلا الطيب، وإن الله يتقبلها بيمينه، ثم يربيها لصاحبه كما يربي أحدكم فلوه، حتى تكون مثل الجبل.
Narrated by Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Whoever gives even a date in charity from lawful earnings, and Allah only accepts that which is lawful and pure, then Allah takes it in His right hand and increases it for the giver as you nurture your foal until it becomes as big as a mountain."
