The Virtue of Dying on a Friday

❀ Ḥadīth:

عن عبد الله بن عمرو رضي الله عنهما قال:

**
ما من مسلمٍ يموتُ يومَ الجمعةِ أو ليلةَ الجمعةِ، إلا وقاهُ اللهُ فتنةَ القبرِ
**

ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿAmr رضي الله عنهما narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

“No Muslim dies on the day of Friday or the night of Friday except that Allah protects him from the trial of the grave.”

📚 Jāmiʿ al-Tirmidhī – Kitāb al-Janā’iz – Bāb Mā Jā’a fī Man Māta Yawm al-Jumʿah: 1074
📚 Musnad Aḥmad

❀ Ḥadīth Authentication:

– Al-Albānī رحمه الله said:

“Its narrators are trustworthy, but it is ‘munqaṭiʿ’ (disconnected) as mentioned by al-Tirmidhī.”

– However, al-Ṭabarānī also narrated it through another chain,
And al-Ḍiyā’ al-Maqdisī recorded it in al-Mukhtārah as a connected (mawṣūl) ḥadīth.

– It also appears in Musnad Aḥmad, and its isnād is ḥasan (good) or ṣaḥīḥ (authentic) when corroborated by supporting chains.

✔ Summary:

Dying on Friday (either during the day or night) is a blessed and virtuous event.
✦ Such a person is protected from the punishment or trial of the grave, as per the Prophet’s ﷺ saying.
✦ The ḥadīth has multiple chains, and although one may be disconnected, others support its authenticity or strength.
✦ Scholars like al-Albānī, al-Ṭabarānī, and al-Maqdisī have addressed and strengthened the narration.
