This excerpt is taken from Sheikh Abu Hamza Abdul Khaliq Siddiqi's book Sahih Fazail-e-Amaal.
Allah Almighty says:
"And it is not for the polytheists to maintain the mosques of Allah while they bear witness against themselves of disbelief. Their deeds have become worthless, and they will abide in Hell forever. Only those should maintain the mosques of Allah who believe in Allah and the Last Day, establish prayer, give zakah, and fear none except Allah. It is expected that they will be among the guided."

From this verse, it is understood that the care of Allah's mosques is not the responsibility of disbelievers and polytheists, but it is the duty of the believers. And at the end of the verse, those who maintain the mosques are counted among the guided people.
Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say: "Whoever builds a mosque for the sake of Allah, Allah will build for him a house like it in Paradise."

Sayyida Aisha Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates:
"The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) ordered to build mosques in neighborhoods and to keep them clean and perfumed."

Besides this, among the fortunate ones whom Allah will grant a place under the shade of His Throne on the Day of Resurrection is also the person who has a connection with the mosque. As mentioned in the hadith:
"And (such a person will also have a place under the shade of the Throne) whose heart is attached to the mosque. (Meaning: whenever the time for prayer comes, I go to the mosque.)"
