Fatwa: Former Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia, Sheikh Ibn Baz (May Allah have mercy on him)
Question:
What is the ruling regarding praying while wearing gloves?
Answer:
It is permissible for a woman to pray while wearing gloves. During prayer, a woman is required to cover her entire body except for her face when there is no foreign man present. Gloves cover the hands, and if she also covers her hands with a shawl or similar item in addition to the gloves, it is also permissible. If there is a foreign man present, it is necessary for her to cover her face just as she covers her body.
As for men, it is not prescribed to cover the palms with gloves or anything else during prayer. Instead, it is preferable for a man to follow the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) by placing his hands and face directly on the prayer mat without any barrier.
