The ruling on offering sacrifice during Hajj in the light of authentic Ahadith

This excerpt is taken from Sheikh Farooq Rafi Sahib's book Qurbani, Aqiqah, and Ashra Zil-Hijjah.

Performing Sacrifice in Hajj

Offering sacrifice during Hajj is the Sunnah of Sayyiduna Ibrahim (peace be upon him), and it is a recommended act for the pilgrims to follow this Sunnah.
① Abu Tufail (may Allah have mercy on him) asked Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both):
يزعم قومك أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم سعى بين الصفا والمروة وأن ذلك سنة
"Your people believe that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed Sa’i between Safa and Marwah, and that this is a Sunnah." Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) explained that they have spoken the truth. Indeed, when Sayyiduna Ibrahim (peace be upon him) was commanded to perform the rites of Hajj, at the place of Sa’i, Satan appeared before him. He tried to move ahead of Sayyiduna Ibrahim (peace be upon him), but Sayyiduna Ibrahim (peace be upon him) went ahead of him. Then Jibra’il (peace be upon him) took Sayyiduna Ibrahim (peace be upon him) towards Jamarat al-Aqaba, and when Satan appeared before him, he threw seven pebbles at him until Satan fled. Afterwards, Satan appeared near the middle Jamarah, and he again threw seven pebbles at him. Then he laid Sayyiduna Ismail (peace be upon him) on one side of his face, and Sayyiduna Ismail (peace be upon him) was wearing a white shirt. He said: "Father! I have no other cloth with which you can shroud me." (So please remove this shirt.) When Sayyiduna Ibrahim (peace be upon him) was about to remove that shirt, a voice came from behind: "O Ibrahim! You have indeed made the dream come true." When he turned around, suddenly there was a white ram there.

② Sayyiduna Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sacrificed during the Farewell Hajj and instructed me:
أصلح هذا اللحم، قال : فأصلحته، فلم يزل يأكل منه حتى بلغ المدينة
"Preserve this meat." Thawban says: So I preserved it, and then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) kept eating from it continuously until he reached Madinah.
