Fatwa by: Shaykh Ibn Jibreen (حفظه الله)
Question:
What is the ruling for a person who performs Fajr prayer two hours before Ẓuhr? It is worth mentioning that he was sleeping the entire time before that.
Answer:
It is not permissible for anyone to deliberately delay Salah beyond its prescribed time without a valid excuse. Sleep alone is not an excuse because a person can go to bed early to ensure he wakes up in time for prayer. He can also assign a parent, sibling, or neighbor the responsibility of waking him up for prayer. Furthermore, he should value prayer so highly in his heart that even if he is sleeping, he feels compelled to wake up as soon as it is time.
A person who habitually prays Fajr at the time of Ḍuḥā (late morning) has no real regard for Salah. In any case, it is obligatory for a Muslim to perform Salah as soon as possible. Upon waking from sleep, they should pray immediately. If a person has been negligent or has forgotten a prayer, he must perform it as soon as he remembers.
And Allah knows best.
