If intercourse does not result in harm but causes discomfort to the wife, it is still preferable and better to refrain from doing so. This is because protecting the wife from discomfort is part of maintaining good marital relations. Allah Almighty states:
وَعَاشِرُوهُنَّ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ
"Live with them in kindness."
[Surah An-Nisa: 19]
However, it is forbidden for a man to engage in intercourse with his wife in the following conditions:
① During menstruation (haydh).
② In the anal area (dubr).
③ During postnatal bleeding (nifas).
A husband must avoid these prohibited acts and adhere to the limits set by Allah, engaging only in actions that are lawful and permissible.
During the menstrual period, a husband is allowed to enjoy his wife’s body in ways other than intercourse in the vaginal or anal areas. This is based on the saying of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ):
«اصنعوا كل شيء إلا النكاح»
"Do everything except intercourse."
[Sahih Muslim, Hadith No. 302]
