The ruling on fasting and expiation for a patient with kidney pain.

This excerpt is taken from the book of Fadhilat al-Shaykh Mubashir Ahmad Rabbani, may Allah have mercy on him, Ahkam and Masail of Ramadan.

The Ruling on Fasting and Expiation for Kidney Pain Patients:.

Question:.

I am a patient with kidney pain. The doctors have told me not to fast, but I do not accept their advice and continue to fast, which increases my pain. If I stop fasting, is there any harm in that? Also, what is the expiation for not fasting?

Fatwa:.

If fasting is difficult for you and it increases your illness, both Muslim and experienced doctors say that fasting can harm your health, increase pain, and pose a risk to your life, then it is permissible for you to break your fast and feed a poor person for each day. You will not have to make up for it because due to health deterioration and this illness, making up is not possible for you. However, if the illness goes away and you regain health, then it will be obligatory for you to fast in the upcoming Ramadan, and you will not be required to make up for the fasts of the previous years that you did not observe and for which you have paid the expiation.
