Should the Mujahideen break their fast?
Question:.
Is it permissible for those who are fighting the enemy to not fast during Ramadan and then make up for it later?
Fatwa:.
When Muslims who are travelers are fighting against the disbelievers, it is permissible for them to shorten their prayers, and it is also permissible for them not to fast during Ramadan and to make up for those fasts after Ramadan. If they are not travelers, such as when the enemy has attacked their cities, then in this case, along with jihad, it is obligatory for anyone who has the ability to fast to do so. And for anyone who does not have the strength to fulfill both fasting and jihad when it is an absolute obligation, it is permissible for them not to fast and to make up for the number of days they did not fast after Ramadan.
