The reward of fasting on the first ten days of Dhu al-Hijjah according to authentic Hadith

This excerpt is taken from Sheikh Abu Hamza Abdul Khaliq Siddiqi's book Sahi Fazail-e-Amaal.

The Reward of Fasting in the First Ten Days of Dhu al-Hijjah

Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) said, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:
ما من أيام العمل الصالح فيهن أحب إلى الله من هذه الأيام العشر . فقالوا: يا رسول الله ولا الجهاد فى سبيل الله؟ فقال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: ولا الجهاد فى سبيل الله إلا رجل خرج بنفسه وماله فلم يرجع من ذلك بشيء .
“There is no day on which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten days.” The Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) asked: Is not Jihad in the way of Allah included? The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “Yes, Jihad in the way of Allah is included, except for the person who goes out with himself and his wealth (for Jihad) and does not return with any of them (i.e., becomes a martyr).”
Reference: Sunan Tirmidhi, Book of Fasting, Chapter on what has been narrated about deeds in the ten days, Hadith No: 757 -
Al-Albani (may Allah have mercy on him) declared it authentic.

Benefit:

Righteous deeds include fasting as well. Therefore, fasting during these days leads to attaining nearness to Allah Almighty.
