The Reward of Charity for the Needy in the Light of the Quran and Hadith

The Reward of Charity by the Needy​

Allah Almighty says:
﴿وَيُؤْثِرُونَ عَلَىٰ أَنفُسِهِمْ وَلَوْ كَانَ بِهِمْ خَصَاصَةٌ ۚ وَمَن يُوقَ شُحَّ نَفْسِهِ فَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْمُفْلِحُونَ﴾
"And they give them preference over themselves, even though they are in need themselves. And whoever is saved from the greed of the self, those are the successful ones."

It is narrated in Bukhari and Muslim that ﴿ويؤثرون على أنفسهم ولو كان بهم خصاصة﴾ was revealed about Abu Talhah Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him), who, upon the instruction of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), invited a hungry traveler to his home, put his children to sleep hungry, extinguished the lamp, and fed the food meant for himself and his children to the hungry guest of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him).

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "One dirham has surpassed a hundred thousand dirhams." Someone asked, "O Messenger of Allah! How is that?" He said: "A man has immense wealth, and he gives a hundred thousand dirhams in charity from it. Another man has only two dirhams, and he gives one of them in charity."

Ibn Khuzaymah, Ibn Hibban, Hakim, Dhahabi, and Albani have declared it "Sahih" (authentic).
