This excerpt is taken from Sheikh Muhammad Iqbal Kilani's book "Al-Wala Wal-Bara" .

Requirements of Loving Allah Almighty

Do not associate partners with Allah Almighty.

Whoever associates partners with Allah, Allah has forbidden Paradise for him, and his abode is Hell; for such wrongdoers there is no helper.
Reference: (Surah Al-Ma'idah:72)

The name of Allah Almighty should be taken with utmost respect and reverence, and His name should neither be taken nor mentioned in any filthy or dirty place.

Keep the name of your Lord Most High pure.
Reference: (Surah Al-A'la:1)

Love the things that are beloved to Allah Almighty.

And whoever honors the things respected by Allah, this behavior is better for him in the sight of his Lord.
Reference: (Surah Al-Hajj:30)

Explanation:

Some examples of things beloved to Allah Almighty are as follows:
① The religion of Islam. ② Faith, prayer, fasting, zakat, Hajj, jihad in the way of Allah, etc., are deeds beloved to Allah Almighty. ③ Allah loves the Prophets, the righteous, the martyrs, and the saints. ④ The month of Ramadan, the two Eids, the first ten days of Dhu al-Hijjah, Ashura, the Day of Arafah, and Friday are days beloved to Allah Almighty. ⑤ The two Holy Sanctuaries (Haramain Sharifain), Al-Aqsa Mosque, and other mosques are places beloved to Allah Almighty.

Dislike what Allah Almighty dislikes.

Allah Almighty has revealed this command in His Book to you that when you hear (anywhere) that Allah’s verses are being denied and mocked, then do not sit with those people until they engage in some other talk, otherwise you will be like them. Indeed, Allah will gather the hypocrites and disbelievers together in Hell in one place.
Reference: (Surah An-Nisa:140)

Explanation:

Some examples of things that Allah Almighty dislikes are as follows: ① Disbelievers, polytheists, hypocrites, and apostates. ② Gatherings in which Allah Almighty, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, Islam, and the symbols of Islam are mocked. ③ Places where acts of polytheism are committed. ④ Markets.

Respect and honor should be given to things attributed to Allah Almighty (such as the Word of Allah, the House of Allah, etc.).

And whoever honors the symbols of Allah, it is a sign of piety in his heart.
Reference: (Surah Al-Hajj:32)

Hostility should be maintained against those who are hostile to Allah Almighty, and friendship should be maintained with those who are friendly.

Those who believe in Allah and the Hereafter will never love those who oppose Allah and His Messenger, whether they are their fathers, their sons, their brothers, or their relatives. These (those who do not befriend the enemies of Allah) are the ones in whose hearts Allah has firmly established faith, and He has supported them with His spirit (i.e., the light of faith or the Holy Spirit, Prophet Jibreel, peace be upon him). On the Day of Resurrection, He will admit them into Paradise beneath which rivers flow, where they will abide forever. Allah is pleased with them, and they are pleased with Allah. These are the soldiers of Allah. Beware that only the soldiers of Allah are the ones who will attain success.
Reference: (Surah Al-Mujadila:22)

Jihad should be performed in the way of Allah with wealth, life, and tongue.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas رضي الله عنه that the Prophet Muhammad صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said: Fight the polytheists with your wealth, with your lives, and with your tongues.
Reference: Sunan Abu Dawood: 2504

Love for the Word of Allah should be cultivated.

O people! A reminder (and advice, that is, the Holy Quran) has come to you from your Lord. In it is healing for the diseases of the hearts and guidance and mercy for those who believe in it. O Prophet, say, it is the grace and mercy of Allah that He has revealed the Quran; people should rejoice in it. The Holy Quran is better than all the things that people gather.
Reference: (Surah Yunus: 57-58)

Explanation:

Loving the Holy Quran includes reciting it, understanding it, acting upon it, teaching it, preaching it, and making arrangements for its dissemination.

Support for the religion of Allah should be given.

O people who have believed! If you support Allah (in His religion), He will support you and make your foothold firm.
Reference: (Surah Muhammad:7)

Explanation:

Supporting Allah's religion includes acquiring knowledge of the religion, spreading the religion, and striving to make the religion dominant.

Be content with all the commands and decisions of Allah Almighty.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abbas bin Abdul Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with him) that he heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say: The person who has truly tasted faith is the one who is content with Allah as his Lord, Islam as his religion, and Muhammad (peace be upon him) as his Messenger.
Reference: Sahih Muslim:34

Be steadfast on Allah's religion.

Sayyiduna Mus'ab bin Sa'd رضي الله عنه says that Umm Sa'd swore that she would not speak to her son Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas رضي الله عنه until Sa'd abandoned the religion (of Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم), neither would she eat nor drink. Sa'd's mother said to Sa'd, "Allah Almighty has commanded you to obey your parents, and I am your mother; I command you to abandon the religion of Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم." She remained like this for three days (neither eating nor drinking) until she began to faint from hunger. One of her sons, whose name was 'Amarah, stood up and gave his mother water to drink (after she regained consciousness). The mother then cursed Sayyiduna Sa'd Then Allah Almighty revealed this verse in the Holy Quran: "And We have enjoined upon man goodness to parents. But if they endeavor to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them."
Reference: (Surah Al-Ankabut:8) [Sahih Muslim:1748

Perform as many voluntary acts of worship as possible.

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه says that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said: Allah Almighty says, "Whoever shows enmity to My friend, I declare war against him. My servant draws near to Me through the supererogatory acts of worship so much that I love him. When I love him, I become his hearing with which he hears (only what I have permitted), his sight with which he sees (only what I have permitted), his hand with which he grasps (only what I have permitted), and his foot with which he walks (only where I have permitted). And when he asks Me, I surely give him, and when he seeks refuge with Me, I surely grant him refuge."
Reference: Sahih al-Bukhari: 6502

Permission to blame or criticize someone in matters of obedience and compliance to Allah Almighty should be granted.

Sayyiduna Ubada bin Samit رضي الله عنه says: We pledged allegiance to the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم to listen to and obey his commands in both good and bad circumstances, and we pledged not to dispute with whoever is appointed as the leader (i.e., ruler), and wherever we are, we will stand firm on the truth or speak the truth. We also pledged that in the way of Allah, we will not fear the blame of any blamer.
Reference: Sahih al-Bukhari: 7199

Patience should be exercised in the face of trials and afflictions sent by Allah Almighty.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik رضي الله عنه that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said: Great reward comes with great trials. When Allah loves someone, He tests him. Whoever is pleased with that, Allah is pleased with him, and whoever is displeased with that, Allah is also displeased with him.
Reference: Sunan Ibn Majah: 4031

One who loves Allah should fulfill trusts, speak the truth, and treat their neighbors well.

Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Abi Qarad رضي الله عنه says the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said: If you wish that Allah and His Messenger صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم love you, then when a trust is placed with you, fulfill it; when you speak, speak the truth; and treat the person next to you kindly.
Reference: Sahih Al-Jami' Al-Saghir wa Ziyadatuh: 1409

All actions should be done sincerely for the pleasure of Allah alone, without showing off or hypocrisy.

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه says that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said: "On the Day of Resurrection, a martyr will be brought. Allah Almighty will enumerate His blessings upon him, and the martyr will acknowledge those blessings. Allah will ask him, 'What deeds did you perform to fulfill the rights of these blessings?' He will say, 'I fought in Your cause until I was martyred.' Allah Almighty will say, 'You are lying. You fought to be called brave, so the world called you brave.' Then the angels will be commanded, and he will be dragged on his face and thrown into Hell. After that, a man will be brought who learned knowledge himself and taught it to others. Allah Almighty will enumerate His blessings upon him, and he (the scholar) will acknowledge those blessings. Then Allah will ask him, 'What deeds did you perform to thank Me for these blessings?' He will reply, 'I learned knowledge myself and taught it to others, and for Your sake, I recited the Qur'an to people.' Allah Almighty will say, 'You are lying. You recited the Qur'an so that people would call you a reciter, so the world called you a scholar and a reciter.' Then the command will be given, and he will be lifted by his face and thrown into Hell. After that, another man will be brought. Allah Almighty will enumerate His blessings upon him, and he will acknowledge those blessings. Then Allah will ask him, 'What did you do after receiving My blessings?' He will say, 'I spent wealth in Your cause in all those places where You were pleased.' Allah Almighty will say, 'You are lying. You only spent wealth so that people would call you generous, and the world called you generous.' Then the command will be given, and he will be lifted by his face and thrown into Hell."
