Is there a method of exorcising jinn narrated from Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal رحمہ اللہ?
Answer:
Qadi Abul-Hasan ibn al-Qadi (in Tabaqat Ashab al-Imam Ahmad) reported:
The Abbasid Caliph al-Mutawakkil sent a message to Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal رحمہ اللہ regarding a girl who suffered from epilepsy and requested him to pray for her recovery. Imam Ahmad رحمہ اللہ took two wooden sandals with palm-leaf straps, which he used for ablution, and handed them over to one of his companions. He instructed him:
“Go to Amir al-Mu’minin and sit near the girl’s head. Say to (the jinn), ‘Ahmad says: Which do you prefer: to leave this girl, or to receive seventy strikes with these sandals?’”
He went to Amir al-Mu’minin and conveyed Imam Ahmad’s message. The rebellious jinn spoke through the girl’s tongue, saying:
“I hear and obey. If Imam Ahmad commands us to leave Iraq altogether, we would do so. Indeed, he obeys Allah, and whoever obeys Allah, everything else obeys him.”
The jinn left the girl, she was cured, and she was later blessed with children. However, when Imam Ahmad رحمہ اللہ passed away, the rebellious jinn returned. Al-Mutawakkil contacted Abu Bakr al-Marwazi (a companion of Imam Ahmad) and informed him of the situation. Al-Marwazi took the same sandal and went to the girl. The jinn spoke again through the girl, saying:
“I will not leave this girl, nor will I obey you or accept this from you. Ahmad ibn Hanbal obeyed Allah, and we were commanded to obey him.”
