Did the Jews claim that Sulaymān bin Dāwūd (علیہما السلام) was a sorcerer?
When the Qur’ān revealed the mention of Sulaymān (علیہ السلام), the Jews of Madinah said:
“Are you not amazed that Muhammad ﷺ refers to Sulaymān bin Dāwūd as a prophet? By Allah, he was nothing but a sorcerer!”
In response to this false accusation, Allah Almighty revealed the following verse, in which the innocence and purity of Sulaymān (علیہ السلام) is clearly affirmed:
وَمَا كَفَرَ سُلَيْمَانُ وَلَـٰكِنَّ الشَّيَاطِينَ كَفَرُوا
“And Sulaymān did not disbelieve, but the devils disbelieved.”
[Al-Baqarah: 102]
✔ The Jews falsely accused Sulaymān (علیہ السلام) of being a practitioner of magic, thereby denying his prophethood.
✔ In defense of His prophet, Allah revealed a decisive verse, clearing Sulaymān (علیہ السلام) of all such allegations.
✔ The real practitioners of sorcery and disbelief were the devils, not Sulaymān (علیہ السلام), who was a prophet guided by divine revelation.
✔ This verse serves as a powerful refutation of those who confuse miracles granted by Allah with sorcery attributed to devils.
