❖ Ḥadīth

وعن أبي الدرداء رضي الله عنه قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم:
‏‏‏‏إن اللعانين لا يكونون شفعاء ولا شهداء يوم القيامة ‏‏‏‏

It is narrated from Abū al-Dardā’ (رضي الله عنه) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
“Indeed, those who excessively curse will neither be intercessors nor witnesses on the Day of Judgment.”

✿ Key Points & Benefits

➊ Why Will Habitual Cursers Be Denied Intercession and Testimony?

Excessive cursing is not a quality of a true believer.
This has been explained in detail under Hadith no. 1417 of the same book.

Even in this world, for testimony to be accepted, the witness must be:

Trustworthy (ʿadl)
Upright and respectable in character

Allah says:

وَأَشْهِدُوا ذَوَيْ عَدْلٍ مِّنكُمْ

[al-Ṭalāq 65:2]
"And take as witnesses two just men from among you."

And:

مِمَّن تَرْضَوْنَ مِنَ الشُّهَدَاءِ

[al-Baqarah 2:282]
"From among those witnesses whom you approve."

It is clear that a person who curses excessively:

✘ Is neither respectable nor truthful
✘ Lacks justice in speech and character
✘ Is viewed as disreputable, sinful, and unjust by others
✘ Often curses those who are not even deserving of curse

➋ Rejection of Their Testimony in Both Worlds

This ḥadīth teaches that such people will have no standing:

✘ Not only will their testimony be rejected in the world,
✘ They will also be denied the honor of interceding or bearing witness on the Day of Judgment.

While righteous and truthful believers will be granted:

✔ The honor of intercession
✔ The role of witnesses for truth,
✔ Including testifying that the Prophets conveyed the message of Allah faithfully.

➌ Additional Interpretation by Scholars

Some scholars interpret this narration to mean:

Excessive cursing is a sin so severe
✔ That the one guilty of it will be deprived of martyrdom (shahādah) — the honor of dying in the path of Allah.

✅ Summary

Cursing excessively is a major moral flaw, unbefitting a believer.
✔ Those who make it a habit are deprived of:
 ① Intercession (Shafāʿah)
② Testimony (Shahādah) on the Day of Judgment
✔ Their behavior disqualifies them as truthful, just, or honorable individuals
✔ They will not share in the spiritual ranks of believers who are witnesses to truth and intercessors for others
✔ A believer must guard their tongue from invoking curses, even jokingly or habitually.
