Hadith 35: Binding the Jinn
The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said:
"Last night suddenly a big jinn came to me to disturb my Tahajjud prayer. Allah Almighty gave me the power to control him, and I intended to tie him to one of the pillars of the mosque so that you could see him in the morning, but I remembered the prayer of Solomon, peace be upon him."
رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَهَبْ لِي مُلْكًا لَّا يَنبَغِي لِأَحَدٍ مِّن بَعْدِي
"My Lord, forgive me, and grant me a kingdom that will not befit anyone after me."

So I left him humiliated and disgraced.
Reference: Sahih al-Bukhari, Prayer, Chapter: The Captive or the Prisoner is Bound, Hadith: 461, and the place of the hadith, p: 235, it has left some part to deceive.
There are three objections from the deniers regarding this hadith:
➊ Denial of the existence of jinn
➋ Binding the jinn
➌ Disturbing the prayer
Answer to the first objection:
① Some part of this has already passed in the chapter proving the personal identity of Satan. The jinn have a permanent created substance; after explaining the created substance of the first human, Allah Almighty said:
وَالْجَانَّ خَلَقْنَاهُ مِن قَبْلُ مِن نَّارِ السَّمُومِ
"And before that We created the jinn from a smokeless flame of fire."

There are two proofs of the permanent creation of the jinn in this verse:
❀ The jinn were created before Adam (peace be upon him), so they cannot be counted among the children of Adam.
❀ Their created substance is completely separate from the created substance of humans.
② The word "jinn" indicates the root of concealment (hiddenness). As Allah Almighty said:
فَلَمَّا جَنَّ عَلَيْهِ اللَّيْلُ
"So when the night covered him."

And He also said:
كَأَنَّهَا جَانٌّ
"As if he were a snake."
Reference: (28-Al-Qasas:31)
A snake is called جان because due to its speed it is not fully visible.
مَا بِصَاحِبِهِم مِّن جِنَّةٍ
"His companion has no madness."
Reference: (7-Al-A'raf:184)
Madness is also called junn because reason is hidden in it. From this root word, it is also understood that the jinn are a hidden creation, while the word human is derived from the root "ins," which means something that can be fully seen. Thus, there is also a contradiction in the roots of these two words.
③ In the verses of the Holy Quran, jinn and humans are mentioned separately in the same verse, and there are sixteen such verses. In some verses, the word jinn is mentioned first, and in others, the word human, as Allah Almighty said:
يَا مَعْشَرَ الْجِنِّ وَالْإِنسِ
"O company of jinn and mankind."

And He also said:
فَيَوْمَئِذٍ لَّا يُسْأَلُ عَن ذَنبِهِ إِنسٌ وَلَا جَانٌّ
"So on that Day, no question will be asked of man or jinn about his sin."
Reference: (55-Ar-Rahman:39)
④ In eleven verses, the jinn are mentioned separately in a permanent manner, He said:
وَجَعَلُوا لِلَّهِ شُرَكَاءَ الْجِنَّ وَخَلَقَهُمْ
"And they have taken the jinn as partners with Allah, while He created them."

And He said:
يَا مَعْشَرَ الْجِنِّ قَدِ اسْتَكْثَرْتُم مِّنَ الْإِنسِ
"O company of jinn! You have taken many of mankind as partners."
Reference: (6-Al-An'am:128)
Iblis was also a jinn, as He said:
كَانَ مِنَ الْجِنِّ فَفَسَقَ عَنْ أَمْرِ رَبِّهِ
"He was one of the jinn, so he disobeyed the command of his Lord."
Reference: (18-Al-Kahf:50)
A particular powerful jinn said to Solomon (peace be upon him) about bringing the throne of the Queen of Sheba:
قَالَ عِفْرِيتٌ مِّنَ الْجِنِّ أَنَا آتِيكَ بِهِ
"A powerful jinn said: I will bring it to you before you rise from your place."

⑤ The jinn were subservient to Solomon (peace be upon him) and they did various tasks for him. He said:
وَمِنَ الْجِنِّ مَن يَعْمَلُ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ بِإِذْنِ رَبِّهِ
"And among the jinn were those who worked for him by the command of his Lord."

⑥ The jinn do not know the unseen, therefore He said:
فَلَمَّا خَرَّ تَبَيَّنَتِ الْجِنُّ أَن لَّوْ كَانُوا يَعْلَمُونَ الْغَيْبَ
"So when he fell down, the jinn realized that if they had known the unseen."

⑦ Some people worship the jinn thinking they are angels, He said:
قَالُوا سُبْحَانَكَ أَنتَ وَلِيُّنَا مِن دُونِهِم ۖ بَلْ كَانُوا يَعْبُدُونَ الْجِنَّ
"They (the angels) will say: Exalted are You, we have no knowledge except what You have taught us. Indeed, it is You who is the Knowing, the Wise."

(Note: The original text says "They (angels) will say: Exalted are You, You are not our helper; rather they used to worship the jinn." The translation is adjusted to reflect the original meaning accurately.)
⑧ The jinn heard the Quran and believed and became callers (to Islam), He said:
وَإِذْ صَرَفْنَا إِلَيْكَ نَفَرًا مِّنَ الْجِنِّ يَسْتَمِعُونَ الْقُرْآنَ
"And when We sent to you a few of the jinn, listening to the Quran."

⑨ Other details about the jinn believing and hearing the Quran are mentioned in the early part of Surah Al-Jinn. The permanent state of the jinn is also mentioned in these verses that they are a permanent creation, and the Quran said about Iblis:
إِنَّهُ يَرَاكُمْ هُوَ وَقَبِيلُهُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لَا تَرَوْنَهُمْ
"Indeed, he (Iblis) and his soldiers see you from where you do not see them."
Reference: (7-Al-A'raf:27)
This is clear evidence that the jinn are invisible permanent creatures. After so much detail, how can any sane person deny their personal existence?
Answer to the Second Objection:
Binding jinn is not against reason. It is mentioned in the Holy Quran that Prophet Solomon (peace be upon him) used to bind rebellious jinn in chains during his reign, as it is stated:
وَآخَرِينَ مُقَرَّنِينَ فِي الْأَصْفَادِ
"And [among] the others bound in chains."

Since it is established from the Quran that Prophet Solomon (peace be upon him) used to bind jinn, and the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the best of the messengers, is it not possible for him to catch a jinn and bind him to a pillar?
Answer to the Third Objection:
Humans, who are material and visible creatures, instill whispers in the hearts of other humans through their speech, but for the jinn, who are invisible creatures, there are many means to instill whispers. The Quran has mentioned the whispers of jinn and humans together:
الَّذِي يُوَسْوِسُ فِي صُدُورِ النَّاسِ ﴿٥﴾ مِنَ الْجِنَّةِ وَالنَّاسِ ﴿٦﴾
"(From every whisperer who withdraws - who whispers in the hearts of mankind - among jinn and among men.)"

However, their whispers do not affect the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). It is understood from the texts that Allah has protected the Prophet (peace be upon him) and all other prophets (peace be upon them) from the influence of devils.
