✦ Man’s Search for a Deity and the Innate Need for Worship ✦
✍ By: Muazzam Ali
In the course of life, man deeply senses the absence of a constant, omnipresent companion—someone who is always with him, who supports him in hardship, protects him, heals his pain, and grants him peace of mind.
Behind this longing lies the innate human urge for worship. The heart of man yearns for love, gratitude, and submission to a Supreme Being.
These inclinations signify that the need for a deity is both natural and essential in human life.
Man's nature compels him to seek the true deity, but this search requires genuine sincerity and effort.
Some of the defining attributes of the true and worthy object of worship are as follows:
① Uncreated and Unborn
A true deity cannot be someone born or created, as that would imply weakness. The divine must be eternal and free from dependency.
② Free of Family or Lineage
Family and relationships signify need and dependency, which do not align with the divine essence.
③ Independent and Eternal
His being is unchanging and unaffected by people's belief or disbelief.
④ The Creator and Owner
He must be the originator of all things, dependent on none, while all depend on Him.
⑤ Hidden and Transcendent
The deity should not be physically manifest, but unseen, allowing the heart to feel His nearness and reflect upon His attributes.
⑥ Sovereign in Authority
The entire universe must be under His command, and He must possess absolute power over all things.
⑦ Source of Protection and Refuge
A true deity must provide security and comfort, making the seeker feel safe under His guardianship.
⑧ Interested in Human Life
He must show concern for His creation, such that man finds attraction and meaning in worshiping Him.
⑨ Guide for All Aspects of Life
A deity should offer a code of life, along with a system of conveying that guidance to humanity.
⑩ Free of Flaws and Defects
He must be free from any imperfection, and all His attributes must be purposeful and complete.
⑪ Merciful and Forgiving
A deity must accept repentance, forgive sins, and grant inner peace and tranquility.
These characteristics illustrate that belief in a true deity is a fundamental human necessity.
The innate yearning for worship within the human soul finds fulfillment only when man recognizes the One True God.
✔ Through this recognition, one attains:
— Mental peace
— A sense of life’s purpose
— And clear guidance
All of which activate and stabilize one’s journey through life.
✿ Belief in the true deity revives the soul and anchors the heart in certainty and serenity.
