“And He brought down those of the People of the Book who supported them from their strongholds and cast terror into their hearts; a group you killed and a group you took captive. And He made you inherit their land, their homes, and their wealth—and a land you had not set foot on. And Allah is over all things competent.”
[Al-Aḥzāb: 26–27]
Banu Qurayzah, a Jewish tribe in Madinah, betrayed their covenant with the Muslims and collaborated with the enemies of Islam. As a result, after the conclusion of the Battle of Ahzab, the Prophet ﷺ ordered a siege of Banu Qurayzah.
After only a few days under siege, Banu Qurayzah surrendered. They agreed to accept Sayyiduna Sa‘d ibn Mu‘ādh (رضي الله عنه) as the arbitrator. Upon delivering his judgment, Sa‘d (رضي الله عنه) said:
“The men should be executed, the women and children taken as captives, and their wealth distributed.”
When the Prophet ﷺ heard the decision, he stated:
“You have judged according to the decree of Allah.”
(Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī: 4121, 4122)
When believers prepare for Jihād fī sabīlillāh with sincerity, the enemy becomes gripped by fear and terror. Allah fulfilled His promises made to those who fight for the elevation of His Word. Not only did they inherit wealth and lands, but as the verse says:
“And a land you had not set foot on.”
History testifies that the Muslim armies that emerged from the Arabian Peninsula marched forth to Khaybar, Shām, Persia, and Iraq, and trampled those lands underfoot, raising the banner of Islam high — Al-ḥamdu lillāh.
Allah is All-Powerful over everything. Nothing can ever overpower or resist His will.
